The project is developing a GIS-based School Streets Digital Atlas that will integrate mapping data with evidence from the benchmarking exercise and in-depth case studies. The Atlas will review European and international examples and aims to support wider, worldwide comparison without claiming comprehensive global coverage.
School Street initiatives will be classified according to dimensions including duration, scope, scale, governance structures and levels of community participation. Their contextual features will also be examined. GIS and spatial analysis will support the systematic mapping and evaluation of the interventions.
The Atlas will build on existing datasets, including the Clean Cities Campaign School Streets dataset, extend the range of countries considered and provide more in-depth analysis. Additional sources and detailed data fields are currently being defined.
Systemica leads Atlas's design, development and data integration. HVL, the University of Westminster and the University of Naples Federico II contribute conceptual and methodological input and content development.
The School Streets Digital Atlas is scheduled for delivery in M24 and will be embedded in the STREET-15 website as an open-access resource.
