School Street Atlas

The STREET-15 School Streets Digital Atlas will be a GIS-based web platform bringing together mapping data and insights from the project’s benchmarking and in-depth case studies. It will document and classify School Street implementation approaches, considering their duration, scope, scale, governance structures and levels of community participation.

The project will review European and international examples and characterise the contextual conditions influencing their implementation, including local governance, regulatory support and the involvement of communities, children and young people. Ten in-depth case studies will provide further evidence on these conditions.

The Atlas will build on existing datasets while extending the range of countries considered and providing more in-depth analysis. It will support wider, worldwide comparison of School Street initiatives, without claiming comprehensive global coverage. By integrating spatial information and case-study evidence, it will help inform policymaking and implementation strategies and inspire cities interested in developing School Streets.

Systemica will lead the design, development and data integration of the Atlas. HVL, the University of Westminster and the University of Naples Federico II will contribute conceptual and methodological input and content development. Cooperation partners, including Walk Brussels, will suggest relevant examples for potential case studies.
